A private detectives story:
"The secretive crooning bowler"
20 August, 2009
Caller- Client Jane Doe regarding her husband.
Request-Domestic surveillance, infidelity check
Summary
They are married 3 years, and he is 4 years her senior. He was hard working and a sucessful sole propreitor of a local business, usual habit of not going out since marriage.
Last 6 months she noticed an unfamiliar, secretive behavior.
He was spending an unususl amount of time in the trunk of his SUV. They have seperate cars and usually she never bothers with his, but she observed what looks like an overnight bag in his SUV. He would make excuses to go out every thursday night as of late. He would always leave around 7 to visit a friend, and come home around 11, never later than 12:30. She knew he liked to hang with some of his long time friends on the beach every now and again before they were married, but it has grown into every thursday. As her suspicions grew, she checked his spending. It seemed he spent around the same amount , over 100 dollars on each trip. She started speculating it was for a hotel and he was having a weekly affair. She states can not sleep at night and has trouble keeping her thoughts straight taking care of a toddler and new puppy.
The client states she is desperate, and can not continue through sleepless nights.
Upon evaluation a case was contracted and the client assisted in creating an investigative plan.
Surveillance began the next thursday in the vicinity of the subjects work site.
At 4pm,
the subject and his vehicle were identified at his work site.
At 420pm,
the subject left in his vehicle and proceeded to a local mexican resturant. Therat he met with 4 other males with he obviously shares a close relationship with judging by their manner of greetings. They ordered margaritas and dinner plates.
At 635pm,
the subject and company exited the resturant at the same time, they entered their vehicles and proceeded north to the local bowling alley parking lot and parked.
At 655pm,
the subject was observed at the back of his SUV removing what appeared to be a black short sleeve collared bowling shirt from a brown bag and changing into it, and removing what appeared to be a black and red bowling ball bag(see photo#1) and entering the bowling alley.
At 7pm,
the 4 males from dinner entered the bowling alley wearing the same type of shirt as the subject.
The males bowled, the subject and 2 males drank beer at a slow rate, while 1 drank soda(see photo#2,3,4,5).
At 935pm,
the subject and friends left the bowling alley and stood by 1 friends car where they stood round and talked(see photo#6).
At 945pm,
the subject and 4 males entered their cars and proceeded north up the beach to a popular karoki bar and resturant. Therat, the males entered and all ordered beer. The subject was then observed singing 2 songs(thunder road, garth brooks/achy breaky heart,,terrible) and consuming 2 beers(see video #1)
At 1115pm,
the subject was observed shaking hands and exchanging hugs with his company(see photo#6).
At 1125pm,
the subject exits bar(see photo#7)
At 1140pm,
the subject arrives in home driveway.
The Client was contacted the following Friday morning to be gven a post surveillance report, at that time she states" she knows he did something last night as he was acting suspicious again. She states she observed a silk shirt tossed in the back of his SUV which can not be his and he didnt answer his phone all night".
It was then explained to the client results of the surveillance. The subject at no time attempted too, or engage with any of the females in his vicinity. Descriptions of the males in his company were given, which she identified all of by name.
I explained they appear to be in a bowling league in addition to the subjects singing. The subject and company did not drink to excess, and no drug use or associated behaviour was observed. The subject drove safely and at no time exhibited any rode behaviour that would cause a law enforcement stop.
The client then sounded as if she were crying, and states she is ashamed, yet incredibly relieved of this outcome. She states she feels he hid it because she hates both bowling and his singing.
The client recalls he said he would quit a bowling league when they married so they could spend more time.
The client states she feels as if a weight has been lifted.
At last check, they are still very happily married,
with an additional 2 children,
3 more dogs,
and hopefully,
some singing lessons..
Sleep easy Client..
*An actual case with some minor alterations to avoid possible identification of the client, who is no longer an OBX resident.
A good representation of an actual, easy to read, non jargon filled report.
Thinking bugging, tracking, droning or racing?
The truth about bugs, trackers, drones, and car chases.
Many potential clients inquire as to high tech. surveillance gear and have many ideas about how it is, or could,
be deployed.
The truth is there are many misconceptions as to how and when these utilities can be legally deployed. Dangerous and illegal tactics borne from hollywood and romance novels give a terrible impression of the actual skillset.
The short of it is, if you, an investigator, or the great pumpkin, sets up a listening, recording, or tracking device without a permissable, legal right to do so, you, your investigator, and the great pumpkin could be going to prison, face heavy fines, and find your life upside down. Illegal eavesdropping can more than ruin your case, certain elements are needed to keep your case on a legal footing.
Speeding subjects, racing cheaters.
Being custodians of your case, PI's do everything they can to follow surveillance subjects in traffic. Most come from an atmosphere of much better resources, where subjects never got lost. This does not exist in the civilian atmosphere, outside of incredible funding. If a subect is driving dangerously outside of the law, it could indicate a variety problems. Most time a cool off period is an effective tactic, not a rush to burn hours on a predictably bad outcome.
